Local task hang via unreleased invalidate lock
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026
Denial of service in Linux kernel ext4 6.6.70 through 6.6.88, 6.12.5 through 6.12.25, and 6.13 allows local users to hang tasks. The ext4_setattr error path jumps past filemap_invalidate_unlock when ext4_inode_attach_jinode fails, leaving mapping->invalidate_lock held. Triggering the flaw requires local low-privileged access and an ext4 journal-inode attachment failure, such as an out-of-memory condition; subsequent file reads can remain blocked.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
