Local privilege escalation via AX.25 autobind refcounts
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel AX.25 before 6.14.2 or 6.15 allows local users to gain kernel-level read and write access. ax25_connect() autobinds an unbound socket without taking device and AX.25 references, so ax25_release() drops unmatched references and frees reachable objects. An unprivileged local account on a system with an AX.25 port and route can repeat connect-and-close to corrupt kernel memory or panic the system.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
