Kernel-memory disclosure or crash via misaligned hex dump
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 2, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux kernel 4.5 through 6.14.1 allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system via ibmvnic login. The ibmvnic login dump casts each buffer chunk to an eight-byte value, so a final chunk shorter than eight bytes is read past its allocation. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and execution of the affected driver path; no integrity impact is reported.
