CVE-2025-22085

Kernel compromise via RDMA device-name race

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux kernel RDMA core allows local users to disclose kernel memory, corrupt kernel state, or crash hosts. During RDMA device registration, a concurrent NETLINK_RDMA rename frees the old kobject name before rdma_nl_notify_event passes it to nla_put_string. Both race operations require CAP_NET_ADMIN in the initial user namespace; disclosure reaches RDMA netlink notification listeners, while memory reuse or invalid reads can corrupt state or panic the host.
