CVE-2025-22081

System interruption via NTFS3 directory offset overflow

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Integer overflow in Linux kernel NTFS3 5.15 and later affected branches allows local users to interrupt 32-bit systems via crafted NTFS metadata. The hdr_first_de() check adds sizeof(struct NTFS_DE) to the disk-controlled de_off value without overflow-safe arithmetic, allowing values near UINT_MAX to wrap past the intended bounds validation. Reachability requires a 32-bit kernel using NTFS3 to process attacker-controlled directory metadata; the published impact is limited to availability.
