CVE-2025-22079Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via unchecked extent-tree depth

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Linux kernel OCFS2 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through crafted on-disk extent-tree metadata. __ocfs2_find_path() trusts the 16-bit l_tree_depth value without enforcing OCFS2_MAX_PATH_DEPTH, so path descent writes beyond the fixed p_node array. Reachability requires a mounted corrupted OCFS2 volume or file access on one; the resulting heap corruption enables kernel-data disclosure, privilege escalation, hangs, and host panics.
