Kernel crash via premature 9p fid invalidation
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux 9p client allows local users to crash the kernel by creating a subdirectory on a configured mount. In v9fs_vfs_mkdir_dotl(), v9fs_fid_add() nulls fid before v9fs_set_create_acl() dereferences it while applying inherited ACLs. The path requires a 9p tree mounted with posixacl and a parent directory whose default ACL applies to newly created subdirectories.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
