CVE-2025-22055

Memory disclosure and crash via zero-length Geneve option

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 8, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel Geneve option parser allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system. The Netlink policies accept an exact 128-byte Geneve option even though geneve_opt stores length in five bits, so the length wraps to zero and confuses parsing into an over-read. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access able to submit the crafted option; observed consequences include a 124-byte slab over-read and a kernel fault.
