Kernel crash via unchecked allocation failure
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated May 23, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the ARCnet PCI driver in affected Linux branches allows local users to crash the kernel during device probing. com20020pci_probe() passes the unchecked NULL result of devm_kasprintf() onward after a device-name allocation failure, causing a NULL dereference. Reachability requires a COM20020 PCI device and allocation failure during probe; the published impact excludes data disclosure and modification.
