Kernel-memory disclosure via lease-context bounds omission
Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Linux ksmbd allows remote authenticated users to disclose kernel memory via a crafted SMB2 CREATE request. smb2_find_context_vals accepts a 20-byte RqLs context with zero data length, after which fixed-offset reads consume up to 36 bytes beyond it. A valid SMB session and tree connection are normally required; the first 16 adjacent bytes are echoed, while a guard-page over-read can panic hardened kernels.
