CVE-2025-22022

Kernel memory corruption via unchained Link TRBs

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel xHCI driver allows local users to corrupt memory through NEC isochronous USB traffic. For affected NEC uPD720200 controllers, the driver emits Link TRBs without the chain bit, so missed-service handling lets DMA continue beyond the transfer-ring segment into unrelated buffers. Triggering requires local low-privileged control of a high-bandwidth isochronous stream and competing PCIe traffic; consequences include cross-endpoint data corruption and system failure.
