Kernel crash via unprobed dummy regulator
Published Apr 8, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux regulator core allows local users to crash the kernel during asynchronous driver probing. regulator_resolve_supply() and _regulator_get_common() pass a null dummy_regulator_rdev to get_device() when the dummy regulator has not finished probing. The race is reachable during regulator initialization when a consumer requests a missing supply before the asynchronous dummy driver completes, resulting in a boot-time kernel crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
