Kernel crash via unchecked allocation result
Published Apr 1, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL-pointer dereference in the Linux kernel 6.7 NPCM8XX pinctrl/GPIO driver allows local users to crash the kernel. The npcm8xx_gpio_fw function fails to check whether devm_kasprintf returned NULL before using the allocated firmware-node name, causing a NULL-pointer dereference. Triggering requires a local low-privilege context, the NPCM8XX driver path, and an allocation failure; the resulting fault interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
