Kernel crash via reversed allocation check
Published Feb 27, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in the Rockchip CAN-FD driver in Linux 6.12 allows local users to crash the kernel during RX FIFO overflow. When error-packet allocation fails, rkcanfd_handle_rx_fifo_overflow_int reverses its NULL check and dereferences the unallocated frame pointer. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access on a system using the Rockchip CAN-FD controller and an RX FIFO overflow under memory pressure.
