Tracing disruption via stale tracepoint registration
Published Feb 27, 2025 · Updated May 11, 2026
Denial of service in Linux kernel tracing allows local users to interrupt tracing through a crafted timerlat option sequence. The removal path consults the current OSNOISE_WORKLOAD option instead of retained registration state, leaving tracepoints enabled and registering them twice when timerlat restarts. Reaching the fault requires local write access to tracing controls and the documented option sequence; the demonstrated result is a tracepoint warning and impaired tracing availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
