Privileged code execution via decoded-frame buffer overwrite
Published Feb 4, 2025 · Updated Feb 4, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in libsthmbc.so on Samsung Mobile Devices running Android 12 through 14 allows local users to execute privileged code. While accessing the buffer that stores decoded video frames, the library fails to validate input before writing beyond the buffer boundary. Triggering requires local access and user interaction with video content, after which code runs with the vulnerable library's privileges.
