Local privilege escalation via missing SMI bounds check
Published Dec 2, 2025 · Updated Dec 2, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek SMI on Android 14.0, 15.0, and 16.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The SMI component omits a bounds check before a write, allowing data to be written beyond the intended buffer. The required starting point is System privilege, no user interaction is needed, and the resulting memory corruption enables further local privilege escalation.
