System crash via uncaught exception
Published Dec 2, 2025 · Updated Dec 2, 2025
Uncaught exception handling in MediaTek Modem NR15, NR16, NR17, and NR17R allows remote attackers to crash a UE through a rogue base station. MediaTek identifies the mechanism only as an exception that the modem does not catch and has not disclosed the triggering input or code locus. Exploitation requires connection to an attacker-controlled rogue base station, needs no device execution privileges or user interaction, and causes an availability-only system crash.
