System crash via modem null-pointer dereference
Published Dec 2, 2025 · Updated Feb 17, 2026
A null-pointer dereference in MediaTek Modem NR15 allows remote attackers controlling a rogue base station to crash the connected system. The modem improperly validates base-station input and dereferences a null pointer, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected routine or message type. Exploitation requires the user equipment to connect to the attacker-controlled base station; it needs no privileges or user interaction and affects availability only.
