A classic buffer overflow in the MediaTek WLAN AP driver allows adjacent unauthenticated attackers to gain elevated privileges. MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function, input field, or exact bounds-checking error beyond the resulting out-of-bounds write. Exploitation requires adjacent network access, needs neither prior privileges nor user interaction, and affects MT6890, MT7915, MT7916, MT7981, and MT7986 chipsets.
