Local privilege escalation via missing bounds check
Published Apr 7, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in MediaTek MT9972 PlayReady TA on Android 12.0 and 14.0 allows local users with System privilege to escalate privileges. The trusted application reads beyond an intended buffer because it fails to verify a bounds value before accessing memory. Exploitation requires prior System privilege on the device and no user interaction; MediaTek does not identify the higher privilege obtained.
