CVE-2025-20660

Local privilege escalation via unchecked PlayReady read

Published Apr 7, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in MediaTek MT9972 PlayReady TA on Android 12.0 and 14.0 allows local users with System privilege to escalate privileges. The PlayReady trusted application performs a read without a required bounds check, permitting access beyond the intended memory boundary; the affected function and input format are undisclosed. Exploitation requires prior System privilege and no user interaction, so the flaw does not provide initial access but raises privileges within the affected device.
