CVE-2025-20629

Local privilege escalation via inherited permissions

Published May 13, 2025 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Insecure inherited permissions in Intel NVM Update Utility before 4.60 allow local users to elevate privileges via local access. The utility inherits access controls that permit a lower-privileged account to influence privileged execution, but Intel has not identified the affected object or permission chain. Successful exploitation requires low privileges, high complexity, and user interaction and can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
