Root command execution via HTTP API injection
Published Sep 24, 2025 · Updated Sep 24, 2025
Command injection in the HTTP API subsystem of Cisco IOS XE Software allows remote attackers to execute commands as root. The subsystem fails to validate crafted API input before passing it into operating-system command execution. Exploitation requires either administrative API credentials or an administrator with an active session to follow a crafted link; success grants full root command execution on the device.
