SYSTEM code execution via unprotected Windows messaging
Published Feb 6, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025
Unprotected Windows messaging in Defense Platform Home Edition 3.9.51.x and earlier allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. A privileged but unnamed product process accepts specially crafted Windows messages without verifying their source, exposing an alternate channel across the privilege boundary. Local low-privileged access is required; successful exploitation runs arbitrary code with SYSTEM privileges.
