Sandbox escape via AudioIPC ServerStream lifetime race
Published Mar 4, 2025 · Updated Jun 4, 2026
Use-after-free in Firefox before 136 and Thunderbird before 136 allows attackers to escape the Windows content-process sandbox. A StreamDestroy race removes ServerStream ownership after a shutdown timeout while data_callback still dereferences its cbs member through user_ptr. The flaw is Windows-only and requires prior control of a content process; affected ESR branches are Firefox ESR before 115.21 and before 128.8, and Thunderbird ESR before 128.8.
