AMF crash via unhandled subscriber-data response
Published Mar 4, 2025 · Updated Mar 4, 2025
Denial of service in Open5GS AMF 2.7.0 through 2.7.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash the AMF through repeated UE handovers. During authentication, gmm_state_authentication treats an unexpected NUDM-SDM response as an invalid service and reaches a fatal assertion instead of ignoring the response. A registered UE moving repeatedly between two gNBs can terminate mobility and session management until the AMF restarts.
