CVE-2025-1755

Privilege escalation via untrusted module search path

Published Feb 27, 2025 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Untrusted search path handling in MongoDB Compass before 1.42.1 allows local users to perform elevated actions on Windows. Compass dependency resolution loads a crafted file placed in C:\node_modules\ instead of restricting loading to a trusted application location. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access, placement of the crafted file, and user interaction before Compass runs in a higher-privileged context.
