Privilege escalation via unchecked default-role update
Published Feb 27, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Privilege escalation in ThemeMakers Cardealer 1.6.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify the default user role. The save_settings function accepts a theme-settings change without checking whether the requesting account has the required capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to set the default role to Administrator, causing newly registered accounts to receive administrative privileges.
