Process crash via misclassified AV1 cleanup

Published Jul 6, 2026 · Updated Jul 6, 2026

Heap-based buffer overflow in GPAC MP4Box at b40ce70f5 allows local users to crash the process by concatenating a crafted AV1 file. sgpd_del_entry treats an AV1 sample-group entry as a larger structured entry during cleanup and reads eight bytes from a four-byte allocation. The user must be able to run MP4Box -cat on attacker-controlled media; the published reproducer causes an AddressSanitizer-detected abort.
