CVE-2025-1566Network attack vector

Plaintext DNS disclosure during VPN state transitions

Published Apr 16, 2025 · Updated May 8, 2025

DNS leakage in the native system VPN in Google ChromeOS 16002.23.0 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read plaintext DNS queries. The VPN state-transition path fails to keep DNS traffic inside the tunnel, causing resolvers to send queries over the observable network. Exposure requires an active native VPN and a network observer positioned to capture traffic during a VPN state change; no data modification is reported.
