Command execution via shell injection and path hijacking

Published Mar 27, 2026 · Updated Mar 27, 2026

Code injection in Wazuh agent and manager before 4.8.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands. Maild passes the smtp_server tag to a shell in local-server mode, logcollector executes configured commands, Kaspersky active response forwards custom_flags, and Windows launches net.exe without an absolute path. Administrative configuration control or placement of a malicious executable in the agent directory is required, and successful exploitation runs attacker-chosen code with the affected service's privileges.
