Authenticated root command execution via XML tag
Published Jan 29, 2026 · Updated Jan 29, 2026
Command injection in TP-Link Archer RE605X V3.0 firmware allows remote authenticated users on the local network to execute commands as root. The xmlToFile function in /usr/lib/lua/luci/sys/config.lua concatenates an unvalidated XML directory tag into an os.execute mkdir command during backup restoration. Administrative access and a crafted encrypted configuration file are required; successful execution grants full device control and can leave the device unrecoverable.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
