Unauthenticated SGW-C crash via pool exhaustion

Published Jan 17, 2026 · Updated Jan 17, 2026

Denial of service in Open5GS 2.7.0 through 2.7.5 allows remote attackers to crash SGW-C with repeated GTPv2 Create Session Requests. The SGW-C transaction path keeps allocating UE/session contexts and response, holding, and peer timers until fixed pools return NULL, then fatal assertions abort the daemon. The trigger requires unauthenticated network access to the SGW-C GTP-C listener; exhaustion of either pool interrupts that gateway control-plane service.
