Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unauthenticated settings overwrite
Published Jan 17, 2026 · Updated Jan 17, 2026
Privilege escalation in Metagauss RegistrationMagic 6.0.7.1 and earlier allows remote attackers to grant a subscriber administrator access. The rm_user_exists AJAX action exposes add_menu, which accepts an empty order slug and overwrites admin_order so menu generation adds manage_options to the target role. The settings write is unauthenticated, but obtaining administrator privileges requires control of at least a subscriber account.
