Code execution via unchecked attribute name copy
Published Dec 23, 2025 · Updated Dec 23, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Unidata NetCDF-C allows remote attackers to execute code when a user opens a crafted netCDF file. The attribute-name parser copies attacker-controlled name data into a fixed-length stack buffer without first validating its length. The published scope identifies only commit dbe0cbb9ff3f706009cf4ee011adf3e58d8a81c1; exploitation requires user interaction and runs code with the current user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
