Code execution via unchecked dimension-name copy
Published Dec 23, 2025 · Updated Dec 23, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in Unidata NetCDF-C commit dbe0cbb9ff3f706009cf4ee011adf3e58d8a81c1 allows attackers to execute code via a crafted file. The dimension-name parser copies an attacker-controlled name into a fixed-length heap buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires context-dependent attackers to make the current user open the malicious file, and successful exploitation runs code with that user's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
