Authenticated arbitrary file read via shortcode traversal
Published Jan 7, 2026 · Updated Jan 7, 2026
Path traversal in Flashcard Plugin for WordPress 0.9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files. The flashcard shortcode handler uses its attacker-controlled source attribute as a filesystem path without rejecting traversal segments or confining the resolved path. Contributor-level access is required, and exploitation discloses files readable by the web server process without modifying or interrupting the site.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
