Account takeover via unverified SMS phone number
Published Mar 7, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Authentication bypass in WPCOM Member 1.7.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to assume any existing account through SMS login. The SMS-login handler trusts the attacker-controlled user_phone value as the account selector without adequately verifying that number before creating the login session. SMS login must be enabled; successful exploitation grants the selected account's privileges, including Administrator access when that account is targeted.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
