Root command execution via DHCP hostname injection
Published Dec 14, 2025 · Updated Dec 14, 2025
Command injection in D-Link DIR-860L and DIR-868L 203b01 and 203b03 allows remote attackers to execute commands as root. During renewal of an existing lease, udhcpd copies DHCP Option 12 into a usockc command string and passes it to system() without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Reachability requires a DHCP client on a network served by the router and an existing lease; injected commands run with the daemon's root privileges.
