Stored XSS via unsanitized Template content
Published Apr 24, 2025 · Updated Apr 24, 2025
Stored XSS in Category Posts Widget before 4.9.20 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through the Template setting. The widget stores Template content without sufficient sanitization or output escaping, then renders attacker-supplied HTML when a visitor loads the affected page. Administrator privileges and disabled unfiltered_html, as on WordPress multisite, are required; viewing the page executes the stored script in the visitor’s browser.
