Code execution via unchecked JP2 data copy
Published Dec 23, 2025 · Updated Dec 23, 2025
Heap-based buffer overflow in GIMP 3.0.6 allows remote attackers to execute code when a crafted JP2 file is opened. The JP2 loader copies user-controlled image data into a heap buffer without first validating its declared length. Opening the file is required, and successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code in the GIMP process context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
