Contributor post-term modification via object authorization bypass
Published Jan 6, 2026 · Updated Jan 6, 2026
Missing authorization in TaxoPress 3.41.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify taxonomy terms on arbitrary posts. The taxopress_ai_add_post_term AJAX handler accepts a caller-supplied post_id and mutates terms without checking edit_post permission for that object. Contributor-level access to the AI metabox and a valid nonce suffice, permitting tags or categories to be added to or removed from posts the account cannot edit.
