Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked site reset
Published Dec 18, 2025 · Updated Dec 18, 2025
Missing authorization in Demo Importer Plus 2.0.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to reset a WordPress site and become Administrator. Ajax::handle_request accepts the do-reinstall AJAX action after validating only a subscriber-accessible REST nonce and does not verify the manage_options capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient; the action drops every database table except users and usermeta, reruns wp_install, and assigns the requesting account the Administrator role.
