Stored XSS via unescaped gist shortcode ID
Published Jan 7, 2026 · Updated Jan 7, 2026
Stored XSS in Easy GitHub Gist Shortcodes 1.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through gist shortcodes. The eggs_shortcode function inserts the id attribute directly into a GitHub script src value after trim(), without sanitization or attribute escaping. Contributor-level access is required to store a crafted shortcode; the script runs in any user’s browser when the affected content is viewed.
