Administrator stored XSS via unescaped color settings
Published Dec 12, 2025 · Updated Dec 12, 2025
Stored XSS in Jeremy B. Merrill DebateMaster 1.0.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through color settings. The plugin stores administrator-supplied color option values without sufficient sanitization and emits them without escaping when the debate shortcode renders. Administrator access is required, and exposure is limited to multisite installations or sites with unfiltered_html disabled; visiting a page containing the shortcode executes the stored script in that visitor's browser.
