Host code execution via malicious gateway backup

Execution with unnecessary privileges in Inductive Automation Ignition 8.1.x and 8.3.x allows remote authenticated users to run host code. Gateway backup restore imports crafted project resources, scripts, or modules and runs their Python content with the Gateway service account's operating-system permissions. Gateway Administrator privileges are required; default Windows services commonly run as SYSTEM, while Linux services often run as root or another elevated account.
