CVE-2025-1377Public exploit

Local eu-strip crash via malformed ELF

Published Feb 17, 2025 · Updated Feb 18, 2025

Improper resource handling in elfutils 0.192 allows local users to crash eu-strip by processing a crafted ELF file. Crafted symbol and relocation data reaches gelf_getsymshndx through remove_debug_relocations, where an illegal null-address read raises SIGSEGV. Triggering the flaw requires local execution with -f and --reloc-debug-sections; the failure terminates eu-strip, and upstream classifies it as a normal bug rather than a security issue.
