Administrator file read via insufficient path validation
Published Dec 10, 2025 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Path traversal in Jeff Starr Simple Download Counter 2.2.2 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read arbitrary server files. The simple_download_counter_parse_path() function accepts an administrator-supplied local file path without sufficient validation, allowing configured downloads to resolve files outside the intended location. Administrator access is required, and WordPress Multisite disables the behavior; exposed files can include configuration credentials and operating-system data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
