SYSTEM privilege escalation via redirected folder deletion
Published Jan 14, 2026 · Updated Jan 14, 2026
Improper link following in Lenovo Vantage before 1.1.0.1111 allows local users to delete arbitrary files with elevated privileges. SmartPerformanceAddin's elevated Do-CleanFiles command recursively deletes user-writable C:\Windows\Temp content without preventing link redirection. A low-privileged Windows user can trigger the RPC command and redirect folder deletion into an MSI rollback chain that executes attacker-controlled code as SYSTEM.
